As of mid-June 2026, ChatGPT Plus in Turkey costs ₺999.99 per month — roughly double the ₺499.99 Turkish users paid before. We verified the current figure at ₺999.99, about $20.86, on 29 Aug 2026. Converted to dollars, that is now above the United States price of $19.99. The era of “just buy it in Turkey” is over.
If you read otherwise somewhere recently, check the date on the page. A lot of blogs still list the old ₺499-era numbers because nobody told them the story changed.
The timeline: what actually changed, and when
| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Mar 22, 2026 | Small bump: Plus moves ₺479.99 → ₺499.99 as part of OpenAI’s global March repricing | OpenTheRank changelog |
| Jun 11–15, 2026 | Plus doubles: ₺499.99 → ₺999.99 on App Store and Google Play, unified into one mobile price | Tamindir, Muhalif |
| Jun 2026 | Pro 20x rises ₺7,999.99 → ₺9,999.99 (+25%). Go stays at ₺249.99 | LOG |
| Aug 2026 | Our own storefront check: ₺999.99 = $20.86, above US $19.99 | verified here, 29 Aug 2026 |
One caution before you trust any “tenfold hike” screenshot floating around: a changelog line jumping from 19.99 to 200 in the US table is Plus sitting next to Pro, not a price history. Same for a ₺999.99 → ₺9,999.99 pair — that is the premium tier beside it, not Plus exploding. Read plan names, not just numbers. Our full reasoning lives on the price changelog.
Wait — isn’t Turkey supposed to be cheap?
That was true for years, and it is exactly why this hike matters. For most of the last two years, a Turkish subscription was one of the classic “regional pricing” bargains people wrote guides about. Those guides are still ranking in search results. They are stale.
Here is the current picture in dollars:
| Plan in Turkey | Lira price | In USD (Aug 2026) | vs US |
|---|---|---|---|
| Go | ₺249.99 | $5.22 | −35% |
| Plus | ₺999.99 | $20.86 | +4% |
| Pro 20x | ₺9,999.99 | $208.62 | +4% |
Go is still a genuine bargain. Plus is not. If your whole reason for a Turkish account was saving money on the popular tier, that reason evaporated in June 2026. The cheapest verified dollar price we hold for Plus right now is the Philippines at $16.16 versus $19.99 in the US — and even those spreads are modest compared with what regional arbitrage used to deliver.
Why OpenAI raised the Turkish price
Two things stacked up:
- The lira kept falling. TRY lost ground against the dollar through 2025 and into 2026, so every month the ₺499.99 sticker stayed put, OpenAI collected less real money per subscriber. Local-currency pricing only survives if the vendor periodically resets it.
- A global repricing wave. This was not aimed at Turkey alone. In March 2026 OpenAI adjusted prices across Canada, Japan, Brazil, India, Germany, the UK and more; the June wave hit Turkey, India and Nigeria hardest. Turkey simply went further than most — a full doubling instead of a trim.
So the honest framing is not “OpenAI punished Turkish users.” It is “the discount had quietly become too expensive for OpenAI to keep giving.”
What Turkish users can do now
- Stay put and pay ₺999.99. If you use Plus daily, that may still be worth it to you. It is the normal local price now, payable with a Turkish card.
- Drop to Go at ₺249.99. It was untouched by the June hike, costs a quarter of Plus locally, and covers lighter usage. Check what you actually use before renewing.
- Chase another country’s price. Possible, but the math got worse everywhere and the risk did not shrink. Regional workarounds violate the terms, and closed accounts are common — do not attempt it with a login you cannot afford to lose. The country-by-country reality is on the /service/chatgpt/ table.
- Cancel and reassess later. Nothing stops you resubscribing when pricing or your usage changes.
Payment mechanics have not changed with the price: a Turkish-issued card on a Turkey-region account, no PayPal, no Apple Pay, and gift cards do not fund this subscription. Full walkthrough: how to pay for ChatGPT Plus in Turkey.
The June 2026 doubling turned Turkey from one of the best regional-pricing deals into a market that pays more than Americans do. Anyone still recommending it on price is working from pre-June information.
