The cheapest verified price lives in Egypt, by a wide margin. Duolingo Super costs EGP 64.99, about $1.29 a month, against $9.99 in the United States. That is an 87% discount, verified Aug 29, 2026 from the Egyptian App Store listing. India, Pakistan, and Turkey all land under $3 too. A few things worth noticing. The four cheapest countries are all ones where purchasing power is low or the local currency has been volatile — regional pricing doing exactly what it is designed to do. Western Europe sits well above the US because Apple’s euro and pound storefront prices include VAT while the US price excludes sales tax. And Sweden is the outlier: 159 kronor converts to more than any other verified storefront right now.
This table tracks Super only. If you want how that compares with the free tier’s actual limits, plus the app-vs-web checkout and Family-plan math, see Duolingo Super price traps. Deciding whether Super beats paying for a course elsewhere is a different question — we put the two biggest language apps head to head in Duolingo vs Babbel.
Can I use a VPN to get cheaper Duolingo?
Partly, and less than most guides claim. A VPN changes which storefront page loads when you browse. It does not change the country on your Apple ID, and it does not give you an Egyptian card. Duolingo Super is billed through in-app purchase, so the price follows your Apple ID country, not your IP address.
Switching an Apple ID country means changing its region settings, agreeing to have little or no store credit, and adding a payment method valid in the target country — or redeeming local gift card credit. A VPN only helps with the browsing step of that process. If someone sells you a ready-made account, understand what you are buying: shared logins get recovered or banned, and you lose your progress history with them.
How do I actually pay?
For the cheapest route (Egypt), the verified mechanics look like this:
| Method | Status on the verified row |
|---|---|
| Local Egyptian card | Works |
| Apple gift card credit | Works — billed to the Apple ID |
| Apple Pay | Works |
| Google Play gift card | Does not work on this row |
| PayPal | Not verified |
| VPN alone | Not enough. Payment country is the gate |
In practice most people do one of two things: set up a fresh Apple ID region-set to EG and top it with Apple gift card credit, or simply subscribe through duolingo.com on the web, where no app-store billing applies at all. The web route deserves a real check — community reports say it often undercuts the store price, since Duolingo keeps the roughly 30% Apple otherwise takes. Whichever way you go, confirm the currency and monthly total on the final billing screen before you tap confirm. General payment options across services: how to pay.
Will my account get banned?
Nobody gets arrested for this, but the risk is real and specific. Region-hopping violates the terms of both the app store and often the service itself. Apple can flag accounts that switch regions repeatedly; Duolingo can suspend subscriptions that look like they belong to another market. We have no verified reports of Duolingo banning learners over billing country, but absence of reports is not safety.
Our honest advice: never move an account whose streak and progress you cannot stand to lose. Start a separate account if you experiment. And re-check the price before renewal — these figures are snapshots, not contracts.
