Yes — Netflix raised its US prices on March 26, 2026, and it hit every plan at once. The ad-supported tier went from $7.99 to $8.99, Standard from $17.99 to $19.99, and Premium from $24.99 to $26.99, per CNBC’s report that day. Our own storefront checks on August 29, 2026 confirm the new list prices are what subscribers actually see. This was Netflix’s first US increase since January 2025.

The 2026 US increases, before and after

Plan Before After (Mar 26, 2026) Change
Standard with ads $7.99 $8.99 +$1.00, about +13%
Standard $17.99 $19.99 +$2.00, about +11%
Premium $24.99 $26.99 +$2.00, about +8%

Source: CNBC, March 26, 2026. Cross-checked against our App Store scrape of the US storefront on Aug 29, 2026, which shows Standard at $19.99 USD and Premium at $26.99 USD.

Two things worth noticing. The ad tier — long treated as untouchable because subscriber growth fed ad inventory — took the largest percentage jump of the three. And Netflix no longer announces per-plan percentages itself, which is why most “increase rankings” you see online are guesses rather than sourced rows. This page sticks to dated pairs.

Which plans were hit, and when

All three US plans moved on the same day, March 26, 2026. Existing subscribers got the new price at their next billing cycle after that date — nobody was charged mid-cycle. If your March bill still showed the old amount, the April one will not.

Netflix also announced a Turkish reprice for 2026, separate from the US move. That one matters for anyone still holding an old bargain-priced Turkish account, and we cover it below.

What you can do about it

Downgrade math. If the jump pushed you over a line, dropping one tier usually beats canceling outright:

  • Standard ($19.99) → ad tier ($8.99) saves $11.00/month, or $132/year, if you can live with ads and lower resolution.
  • Premium ($26.99) → Standard ($19.99) saves $7.00/month, or $84/year, and you keep ad-free viewing; you lose 4K and two streams.
  • Premium → ad tier saves $18.00/month, or $216/year, but that is effectively a different product.

Cancel-and-rejoin. Honest answer: it rarely works the way people hope. List prices apply to returning accounts too, so rejoining does not restore an old rate. The saving comes only from actually not paying for the months you are gone — pause during a busy stretch, not as a pricing trick. Step-by-step instructions are in how to cancel your Netflix subscription.

The country angle

The same plan is priced very differently across storefronts. These rows come from our verified tables (all checked Aug 29, 2026):

Country Plan Local price USD vs US
Pakistan Standard PKR 800 $2.89 −86%
Egypt Standard EGP 190 $3.77 −81%
Nigeria Standard NGN 6,500 $4.80 −76%
India Standard ₹499 $5.21 −74%
Kenya Standard KES-equivalent $5.29 −74%
Turkey Standard ₺289.99 $6.05 −70%
United States Standard $19.99 $19.99

Full rankings live at Netflix prices by country and the cheapest-country breakdown.

Now the honest risk framing, because the gap above is exactly the kind of number that gets oversold:

  • Turkey already shrank. Old guides quote a ~₺100 Standard price. The verified Aug 29 row is ₺289.99 — Netflix repriced the market in 2026, and the famous bargain lost roughly two-thirds of its value. Cheap-country prices are snapshots, not contracts.
  • Payment is the hard part. A VPN changes where your traffic looks like it comes from, but it does not give you a foreign card or change your app-store country. Our verified rows show these storefronts billing via Apple ID credit tied to that country — setting that up is the real work.
  • The risk is asymmetric. If a market gets repriced while you hold it (as Turkey did), you eat the increase. If your account gets flagged for a region mismatch, support help depends on where you actually live. Treat the gap as interesting context more than a savings plan.

How this wave compares to earlier hikes

Wave What moved Source
Oct 2023 Basic $9.99 → $11.99; Premium $19.99 → $22.99 MacRumors/CNBC coverage
Jan 2025 Ads $6.99 → $7.99; Standard $15.49 → $17.99; Premium $22.99 → $24.99 CNBC, Jan 21, 2025
Mar 2026 All three tiers up, $1-$2 each CNBC, Mar 26, 2026

The pattern: smaller jumps, shorter intervals. The 2023 move skipped Standard entirely; 2025 and 2026 raised everything, with the ad tier no longer exempt. Compounded since late 2023, the ad tier has risen about 28% and Premium about 35%. Against the rest of 2026, Netflix’s move was mid-sized — Crunchyroll’s flat +$2 across tiers was sharper percentage-wise, and the year’s biggest verified hikes happened outside the US entirely, in Turkey, India, and Egypt. The ranked ledger of all of them is in biggest subscription price increases of 2026.

If your renewal email looks different from last year’s, open your account’s billing history and compare against the table at the top of this page rather than a headline percentage. And if you decide the answer is leaving altogether, the cancellation walkthrough above covers both pausing and full deletion.
