Telegram Premium costs ₹319 per month in India — $3.33 on our 29 Aug 2026 verification date, roughly 33% below the $4.99 United States price. That puts India third-cheapest out of every market we verify, behind only Indonesia ($3.31) and Pakistan ($3.32). You do not need a VPN, a foreign card, or any tricks to get this price; it is what Telegram charges Indian accounts natively.
This page answers the questions people actually ask about that pricing. The live table with every dated country sits on the Telegram price board for India.
What Telegram Premium costs in India
| Source | Price | USD | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Indian App Store | ₹319 / month | $3.33 | Verified 29 Aug 2026 |
| US App Store | $4.99 / month | $4.99 | Same date, for comparison |
| @PremiumBot | Below app-store rates | Varies | Official bot, priced off your +91 number |
There is one Premium tier — no student, family, or annual variants in the consumer lineup as verified. Conversions move with the exchange rate, so treat the dollar figures as indicative rather than fixed.
Why India’s price sits near the bottom
Purchasing power, plain and simple. Telegram prices each market against local incomes rather than converting its US rate, and India — where most users are on cheap mobile-data plans and competitors like WhatsApp are free — cannot support a $5 subscription at scale. The result is a rupee price that converts to barely two-thirds of the American one. We break down the full mechanism on the how Telegram prices each country page.
Paying from India: three routes
- App Store (iPhone/iPad) — the default. Billed to an Indian Apple ID in rupees; the ₹319 row above came from exactly this route.
- Google Play (Android) — same idea, billed to your Google account in rupees.
- @PremiumBot — Telegram’s own official bot. You pay by card directly, skipping Apple’s and Google’s cut, which is why Telegram’s FAQ states it costs less than either store. Pricing follows your phone number’s country code, so an Indian number gets Indian pricing automatically. This works from any country, which makes it the simplest legitimate discount available anywhere.
On UPI specifically: Telegram does not list UPI as a payment method. Cards only, whether through the stores or the bot. Since RuPay debit cards — the kind most Indians link to UPI apps — ride on card networks, they generally work where Visa/Mastercard do. That is as close to UPI as the official flow gets, and we would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise.
The honest arbitrage note: Indonesia is cheaper, by two cents
Indonesia holds the verified global floor at Rp59,000, or $3.31, against India’s $3.33. On paper that is an arbitrage opportunity; in practice it is nothing. Saving the equivalent of a few paise a month would require an Indonesian phone number or an App Store region migration — steps that carry genuine account risk for effectively zero gain. The full ranking lives on the cheapest country for Telegram page, and the pattern repeats across subscriptions: see also Netflix’s India pricing context for how far localization can go.
If your goal is simply paying less than $4.99, skip geography entirely: @PremiumBot undercuts the app stores from India already, and Fragment — Telegram’s TON-crypto marketplace — has consistently sold prepaid Premium below in-app rates for those comfortable with cryptocurrency. Both are operated by Telegram itself, so neither carries country-hopping risk.
Free vs Premium: what the ₹319 actually buys
Free Telegram is generous, and Premium refines rather than rescues it. Per telegram.org’s feature pages (accessed Aug 2026):
| Feature | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| File upload size | 2 GB | 4 GB |
| Download speed | Standard | Faster |
| Channels/groups you can join | 500 | 1,000 |
| Chat folders | 10 | 20 |
| Sponsored messages in large public channels | Shown | Removed |
| Animated avatars, premium stickers and emoji | Limited | Full set |
If none of that moves you, the free tier remains fully functional — Premium is a supporter badge plus convenience, not a paywall on core messaging.
