ChatGPT is cheaper than Grok in USD on nearly every row we have verified: the cheapest dated ChatGPT Plus price right now is $16.16 in the Philippines, while the cheapest dated SuperGrok price is $27.12 in Turkey. Both figures were checked August 29, 2026. So even at each service’s own best discount, Grok costs roughly $11 more per month than ChatGPT.
Most comparisons you’ll find online stop at the US sticker prices — twenty dollars versus thirty — then pivot to features. That misses the part that actually matters if you live outside the US: both companies charge very different prices by country, and the discounts don’t line up. Which is cheaper, ChatGPT or Grok?

The pattern holds down the whole table: ChatGPT’s cheapest 40+ verified countries cluster between about $16 and $24, while SuperGrok’s run from about $27 up past $40. Full proof tables: ChatGPT and Grok.
There is also a cheaper rung entirely: OpenAI sells a budget plan (Go) that starts around four dollars in India and eight dollars in the US. xAI has no comparable entry tier below SuperGrok on its own storefront — if budget is the driver, that comparison isn’t close.
Are these the same product?
No, and treating them as interchangeable gets people banned. ChatGPT Plus comes from OpenAI; SuperGrok comes from xAI. Different terms of service, different account systems, different usage limits. If you subscribe to one through a workaround and it gets cancelled, the other company owes you nothing. Compare like against like only: Plus versus SuperGrok, each priced in its own country.
Where each one is genuinely cheap

Turkey deserves its own paragraph. It used to be the famous bargain for ChatGPT — then OpenAI roughly doubled the Turkish price in June 2026, and it is now slightly above the US price. Meanwhile Turkey happens to be SuperGrok’s single cheapest verified market today. Old lists still call Turkey the cheap country for AI subscriptions; ours stopped doing that in June, and we re-check monthly.
How do you actually pay for each one?
This is where the two vendors differ most, and where most comparison pages say nothing at all.
ChatGPT (web checkout at chatgpt.com): credit and debit cards everywhere, processed through Stripe. Beyond cards, OpenAI documents local methods per region — UPI in India (on the two cheaper plans, not the top tiers), Pix in Brazil, GoPay in Indonesia, Kakao Pay and Naver Pay in Korea. Apple Pay and Google Pay appear in some regions via Stripe. In every country we verified, a local card works. Apple and Google gift cards did not work anywhere we checked — prepaid store credit is not a supported web payment.
Grok: three separate storefronts, which trips people up. SuperGrok sold on grok.com bills your card directly through xAI’s web billing. The same plan sold inside the iOS app bills through your Apple ID — which means App Store credit can pay for it, something ChatGPT doesn’t allow. And Grok access bundled with X Premium bills through x.com’s own checkout (card, plus Apple/Google in-app paths). One catch: whichever storefront you buy from owns your subscription — refunds and cancellations for a plan bought in the Apple app go through Apple, not xAI.
Paying from a cheap country with no local presence: for ChatGPT, India’s UPI support makes it the easier of the two without any workarounds. For Grok, you’re essentially down to cards or the iOS-app route. Neither vendor officially supports paying with a foreign-issued card while claiming another country’s price — both check that your card issuance region matches the storefront you’re buying from, per their own help documentation (OpenAI declined-card help page; xAI billing docs, both reviewed August 2026).

What a VPN can and cannot do here
A VPN changes which storefront you see, not what you can pay with. To actually get the Philippine or Turkish price you’d need a payment method issued in that country, and both vendors pair the billing address with the account region. Mismatch them and the charge fails — or worse, works for a month and then dies at renewal. We don’t recommend VPN-based arbitrage on either service; the honest savings are in your own country’s local pricing, which for ChatGPT is a discount in most of the world and for Grok usually isn’t.
The bottom line
If you’re choosing purely on price, ChatGPT wins today in almost every country where we hold verified numbers — often by 30–45% at the same tier. Grok’s counterargument was never the sticker price anyway; people buy it for the model and the X integration.
