Yes — Spotify accepts PayPal in many markets, including the United States, and has for years. At signup in a supported country, PayPal appears alongside cards as a first-class option, and existing subscribers can switch their billing over from the account page in about a minute. The honest caveat: it is not universal. Availability is decided by your billing country, and some large markets do not offer PayPal at all.
Where PayPal works — and how to actually check
Spotify decides payment methods per market, and the definitive test takes thirty seconds: start the signup flow (or open your account’s payment page) and look at what the checkout lists. That screen never shows methods that fail in your billing country, so it beats any blog list — including ours — for current truth. PayPal support is solid across much of North America and Europe, patchier elsewhere, and absent in some markets entirely.
One structural note: subscriptions bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play are billed by those stores, not Spotify. PayPal does not enter the picture there except indirectly — Google Play accepts PayPal in some countries, which would make it work one step removed.
Switching an existing subscription to PayPal
- Log in at spotify.com and open Account → Manage your plan (or the payment section).
- Choose Update next to the payment method.
- Select PayPal, authenticate once, confirm.
- Your next renewal bills through PayPal automatically; the old method stops being charged.
If PayPal is not listed at step 3, your billing market does not support it — no workaround exists on the same account, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Does it change the price? No
The plan price is identical whichever rail carries the payment — our verified US Individual figure of $12.99/month (checked August 29, 2026) applies either way. The only cost difference ever comes from currency conversion: pay a foreign-currency invoice through PayPal and its conversion spread applies, typically a few percent. Paying a domestic bill in your own currency, that fee is zero.
When PayPal is not available
Real alternatives, in order of convenience:
- Local debit/credit card — accepted essentially everywhere Spotify operates.

- Store billing — subscribe via Google Play where Play supports PayPal in your country.

One caution before you switch rails
Whichever method you use, keep cancellation inside Spotify’s own account settings for direct-billed plans (full walkthrough) — store-billed plans cancel in the store instead, and mixing the two is how accidental renewals happen. Failed PayPal renewals are recoverable without losing playlists, but prevention beats recovery: check the payment section once a year, especially after changing banks.
