How to cancel ChatGPT Plus (web, Apple, Google Play)

Cancel ChatGPT Plus on the web in about a minute: open chatgpt.com, profile icon, Settings, Subscription (sometimes My Plan), Manage my subscription, Cancel plan (OpenAI Help Center, checked Aug 2026). You keep Plus until the period you already paid for ends. Then the account drops to Free. Your chats are not touched.

The catch is who holds the bill. If you started Plus inside the iPhone or Android app, OpenAI’s site cannot cancel you. Apple or Google holds the switch. That split — plus a 14-day withdrawal that exists in the EU, UK, and Turkey and not in India — is why this page is not the Netflix cancel guide with the logo swapped.

Web billing (card, UPI, most chatgpt.com signups)

Sign in at chatgpt.com in a browser, not an in-app webview if you can help it.
Profile → Settings → Subscription.
Manage my subscription opens the billing portal.
Cancel plan, confirm, keep the email.

Nothing cuts off early. If the portal fails to load, try a desktop browser. OpenAI’s billing page is picky about in-app webviews.

Apple owns iPhone Plus. Google owns Play Plus

iOS: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → ChatGPT → Cancel Subscription. Apple renews unless you cancel more than 24 hours before the date. Refunds go through reportaproblem.apple.com. OpenAI says Apple-billed refunds are Apple’s call.

Android: Play Store → profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → ChatGPT → Cancel. Google often offers self-serve refund inside about 48 hours of a charge.

Uninstalling the app does none of this.

Refunds, Turkey, and the API trap

OpenAI’s default is no prorated refund. EU, UK, and Turkey residents get a 14-day withdrawal — consumer law, not a Plus perk. India does not inherit that window. Turkey also doubled Plus in mid-2026, so a rejoin there is a different sticker than the one you remember.

API keys, usage, and credits live on a different invoice. Canceling Plus does not delete them. Topping up the API never renews ChatGPT Plus. That sentence would be false on YouTube, where Music Premium is bundled into the same membership.

US Plus on our dated cell is $19.99, not a round twenty. India Plus is ₹1,999 ($20.88). Philippines Plus is ₱999. Check checkout before you rejoin out of habit: ChatGPT Plus price in India and cheapest country for ChatGPT Plus.

Questions

Will ChatGPT delete my conversations if I cancel?

No. Canceling only stops the renewal. Your account drops to Free and chat history, custom instructions, and GPTs stay. Deleting the OpenAI account is a different, irreversible flow.

Can I get a prorated refund for the unused days?

Usually no. OpenAI says cancellation stops future renewals and does not refund past charges. EU, UK, and Turkey residents can withdraw within 14 days of a purchase. Apple-billed and Play-billed refunds are Apple's or Google's call.

What happens if I just uninstall the app?

Nothing financial. Uninstalling cancels nothing on web billing, Apple, or Google Play. The charge keeps firing until you cancel on the platform that started it.

If I resubscribe, is the price the same?

Not necessarily. A rejoin bills at the current list for your market. US Plus is $19.99, dated 29 Aug 2026. India Plus is ₹1,999 ($20.88) — a surcharge. Turkey roughly doubled Plus in mid-2026.

Can I downgrade to Go instead of canceling?

Go is a different dated OpenAI invoice (₹399 in India, $8 in the US). Check the plan picker on your own account. There is no cheaper Plus coupon hiding under Plus.

Does canceling Plus affect my API keys?

No. ChatGPT Plus and the OpenAI API platform are separate products with separate billing. Canceling Plus leaves API credits and keys alone.
