Turkey is not using a discount code. Spotify publishes a different list price per country, and the Turkish Individual number is ₺99 / $2.07 versus US $12.99, dated 29 Aug 2026. Nigeria is cheaper: ₦1,600 / $1.18.
Whether you may buy that price is a different article: is Spotify cheaper in Turkey?. This page is the why. Rails: /how-to-pay/.
The economics: list price, then FX
Purchasing power. Converting $12.99 into lira would make Spotify a luxury good. Spotify picks a TRY price households will actually pay.
Local music competition. YouTube Music, Apple Music, telco bundles, and free ad-supported listening all sit on the same phone. A US-converted sticker loses that fight. Mechanism: how regional pricing works.
FX after the fact. The list is frozen in lira. The dollar figure moves when the lira does. That is why an undated “Turkey costs $X” post is already wrong.
What closed in 2025–26 (the why still stands)
- September 2025 terms: account country should match where you live.
- Country-matched payment: a foreign card plus a VPN is the wrong till.
- Gift cards discontinued worldwide. Netflix Turkey kept TRY codes. Spotify did not.
Ininal remains. Ozan is frozen (license suspended 31 Oct 2025). Checkout: how to pay for Spotify in Turkey.
Same country, opposite AI policy
ChatGPT Plus Turkey is ₺999.99 / $20.86, above US Plus $19.99, dated 29 Aug 2026. Gift cards cannot pay Plus. Claude Pro is the same ₺999.99 and can take Turkey-store Apple credit. Spotify did not follow that 2026 AI surcharge. Same passport, different merchant: ChatGPT Plus Turkey price hike.
How Turkey compares, same day
Individual, 29 Aug 2026:
| Country | Local | USD | vs US ($12.99) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nigeria | ₦1,600 | $1.18 | −91% |
| Pakistan | Rs379 | $1.37 | −89% |
| India | ₹139 | $1.45 | −89% |
| Egypt | E£79 | $1.57 | −88% |
| Turkey | ₺99 | $2.07 | −84% |
| Argentina | AR$4,499 | $3.02 | −77% |
| Germany | €12.99 | $15.07 | +16% |
Turkey is mid-pack among cheap music countries, not the winner. Germany prices above the US. Family Turkey is ₺165 / $3.44 versus US Family $21.99.
YouTube Turkey Apple Individual ₺159.99 / $3.34. Netflix Turkey Standard ₺289.99 / $6.05. Those ranks are not Spotify’s ₺99.
The bottom line
Spotify is cheaper in Turkey because Spotify chose a TRY list, then years of lira slides shrank the dollar print. Enforcement around who may buy it got stricter. Gift cards will not reopen 2023. Rank: cheapest country for Spotify.
